Fall 2009
Dear Friends of NCC,
When we as a nation hear the words “We Shall Overcome” I think we know what the emotional impact is and what it means to us as a people.
In our small neighborhood at NCC, these words held a lot more meaning in the past year. This was a year of loss on many levels, but also a year of renewal. We want to welcome you to continue on our journey to celebrate our place in the world through programs that open our hearts and minds to those around us.
I don’t need to tell you what the current financial crisis is doing to non-profits all over the country, but I can tell you how we are facing this crisis in our small section of the world, and to invite you to spend some time with us this year.
NCC will continue to partner with organizations that share our vision and will plan programs to help our fellow teachers and community members to better understand our world. As usual, we invite you to think about what is important in the way we approach the world around us and to join us in appreciating the cultural richness that makes our lives more meaningful and happier as a result of our participation in activities that take us outside ourselves.
Supporting our work means:
- Putting programs into schools, classrooms where children are being taught about what it means to appreciate world cultures.
- Helping to bring renowned authors and musicians into our region to share their insights and talents with us through their creative work.
- Sponsoring an institute for teachers to go deeper into a topic and allowing them time to do research, create lessons, and network with each other and specialists to bring the best scholarship and methodology to your children and the children of your neighbors.
- Bringing performers from other parts of the world to NH
- Sharing your own insights and skills through workshops, discussions, and seminars where you can both teach and learn.
To help launch us back into a world where so much has changed, we welcome you to a special program on October 17th at the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden in Harvard, Massachusetts.
Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to NCC in your charitable giving plan this year. We are pleased to say that with your help we met our goal of $50,000 last year that has been matched by The Freeman Foundation. Now, we need to do it again and we need you to help us reach this goal. Our deep gratitude is extended to The Freeman Foundation for providing us with this challenge grant for the second year. Please help us reach our goal.
For every dollar you give, we will have two. Don’t miss this opportunity to double your money! There are very few ways to do that in this market.
Sincerely,
Blanche Milligan
Executive Director
